10 specially tuned steel bell plates. Played not by striking, but without touching, using electro-magnets. Sounds very eerie, though the video sound quality is poor - headphones help!

Concept by composer Ed Carter. Plates by me. Electronics by Dave Cranmer. Structure and lighting design by Nikki Locke.
This has been a memorial installation in a church in the North East of England. The work commemorates the 1962 George Elmy lifeboat disaster. Tonight, it has been out on the quay-side, with a brass band, braving the elements. Sadly I wasn't able to go to the other corner of the country to catch it - I've been busy with other things - see the next post...

I've started again on another Spizz tribute cymbal. Hoping I don't crack this one! It has gone better than the earlier one so far...
It has got to rest for a few days, then I'll check the sound and maybe make some minor tweaks. Then the final lathing passes and some secret-sauce patina. Ready in time for PASIC!!
Cheers,
Matt.

The octopus motif is hammered in relief and patinated in a combination of processes. It is an artistic interpretation of this image:

Fantastic sound! (But the embedding/link doesn't work, you have to copy/paste the url.)
I saw the clip on Facebook today.
Fantastic!
Showed it to my wife (she is a very fine musician) and the reaction was: "Wow, we need to have something like that in home."
I'll give you a call very soon Mr.Nolan.
Good Job!
Amazing, Matt!!
