Not absurd. 2500 is the norm for kits in those sizes with a snare, and in pretty good condition perhaps that's even below the norm... There is an extra hole on the bass, but still.
1000 bucks? You'll get more than that for the 14x14 these days... I paid about 2k for my set about 5, 6 years ago.. That was about the average for them, then.
If it's a real Prog jazz kit 12 14 20, no extra holes or funky different hardware, I'd say go for it before the seller finds out he could get 2x that on ebay. Especially if he's willing to wait as long as he has.
I think the bigger ones are usually cheaper. Certainly 22/13/16 seem to be. I bought one once many moons ago but it didn't work out (long story).
Just stay away from one with an 18" FT because somebody might bid high for that set so they can make the 18" into a bass drum.
My first kit drum teacher had one of these progressive jazz kits from 1970 (the first version of the post round badge era) so I played on one regularly at lessons. They are nice, but for some reason mystill lies with the Ludwig Jazzette.
