Hello all-
Just wondering what the deal is with Alejian cymbals. Anyone have a brief history and a quality overview on these? Thanks!

Yup, made by A Zildjian a ways back, as a "stencil brand" supplied to drum mfr's. . I think they are pretty darn old, yes ???? They are considered vintage and fairly rare...but they are obscure enough that their market value isn't usually very high....(most folks think they are just an old, cheap rip-off of Zildjian) but I dunno how they sound.
Thanks Captain! Sounds like they might be a bit generic......I know they are old, but vintage doesn't mean quality, eh? Thanks for your help.
Thanks to you too Jaye.....an old church auction has a set of hats, but if they are generic Zild's, may not be worth the drive. Be well.
Hard to say with those.....a lot of Alejians are dang old, like from the 30's and 40's....30's ones tended to be kinda heavy and lightly lathed back then, like a lot of pies from the 30's, not the greatest sounding. The 40's ones & later were better, they became thinner and actually some were as good and as nice as their contemporary transitional stamp A Zildjian cousins.
Might be worth the drive, but maybe not.
I figure a 50-50 shot at making a good score.
Hi all!
Alejian Cymbals were made by Zildjian for Slingerland. These cymbals were in all Slingerland catalogs between 1936 and 1967. I wouldn't say they are Avedis Cymbals. In fact, I have a set of 15" hats here and they are HAMMERED! They are more like K's rather than A's! (Or somewhere inbetween... ;-) )
In most Slingerland catalogs they were offered next to K's and were just a few dollars cheeper.

Gerard
