    Alan Dawson's 20" Old K

    That's right folks.

This one belonged to the late great Alan Dawson.
I bought it from one of his former students who got it from Alan in Boston.

    1950g

    Intermediate Stamp

Great condition, no cracks, no fleabites.

I need to raise some funds, so it has to go.
Please send me offers + your mail adress. I'll send you a soundfile.

I'm living in Europe (would prefer a deal within the EU) but I will be in NYC in August for a week,
    so I could bring it...?

I tried to upload a short soundfile here:
    Aufnahmeluft.m4a

    Asking price: 1200€

There's a reasonable chance that cymbal was played by a young TW.
    Sizzle swings....

That could be... Alan like every drummer ; ) was a Gretsch endorser which meant " dude you get the cymbals too go talk to Phil"

1966 Gretsch ad: altho I have to think Alan used used Gretsch hmm 62- 66-7
    there's another Gretsch/ Alan/ ad/ I can't find it..

that isn't the one I remember -seeing- but it'll do.
    From 1966 ^

Being Alan didn't "actually make" the cymbal... an Intermediate 20 at 1950g will sound - hate to disappoint anyone looking with stars in eyes- like every other 20" Intermediate old K in and around that weight from anywhere located anywhere here on this planet. My opinion of them is "stone cold Jazz" cymbal a real "time-keeper"..stick sound wise. Direct focused -dry but not dull - middle frequency hole- dark bright ice. Unlike most anything found today..no one has that cup on that flat profile with that lathing at that weight (mine (lucky to have one) is 1987g) . Except those of that era and of that make.
It may be the Sonny Rollins video Denmark 1965 that represents his K cymbal era.
Alan was the baddest a** of all the baddest a** traditional drummers.
I have bar tapes. With Sonny Stitt. from the 70s. cassette both sides. On it he plays 89.9% of every lick Mr. Williams ever utilized..it's shocking and I better preserve that tape..upload it to Soundcloud or something. eh.. I think looking at it the 65 Rollins youtube is A's.
    more likely:
ALAN DAWSON - BILL EVANS - LEE KONITZ - NIELS HENNING ěRSTED PEDERSEN - Drum Solo from "Melancholie Baby"
    may be K's...

I sat and watched him around 77-78 20ft. away ground level for 3 hours in Boston one Sunday afternoon. That was my lesson.
I don't recall breathing the whole time.

Is there a secret password too?! Post the price and a soundfile. If you're using Alan Dawson as the hook you'll need to provide some proof.
