Am I Wrong Or Is This A Sweet Deal On A 20,14,12 Gretsch, 2/3 RB (not mine)?

This looks like a pretty darn cool player's kit: (not mine)

I saw that first time around. New auction mentions the 14 is not an RB....I dont know Donny, It looks pretty good. not sure if the edges correct for an RB on the 14...Nice player but I think its a hard sell.

You have a point there, Jay P. One the other hand, I don't think that would bother an old hippy rock drummer like me. I put together an orphan kit myself, where the bass and racky are rb and the 14 is a modern Gretsch. I am sure you are correct that my edges do not match. But the only issue really is that the floor tom is easier to tune than the other two and sounds way better! ho ho ho.

Butttt seriously, folks, I think you still get the Great Gretsch sound. MAYBE my floor has a teeny bit more resonance and sustain. But I am ok with it. I don't think our good brother deepsoulray d.o. would want my kit. He is seeking 60's all around.

I am going to go even further away from purity, though, and play non Gretsch metal snare drums with my Gretsch kit. The FBI and drum police are so busy watching Bill Stewart for doing that, that they will never catch me!

I always felt those backwards roundover edges
Are the trademark definitive sound of the 14 RB. That great Gretsch sound.
If your going to the trouble of mocking one up you might as well
give it proper edges and get as close to that ooompah sound as possible.

I hear ya Donny I’d play any old drum and why the heck not?, shoot I started out on metal garbage cans. Pennys on the lid to get the snare sound
then spent the penny’s on bazooka joe and jawbreakers

Instead of releasing the new Broadkasters, Gretsch shoulda released the vintage 3ply and 6ply series - both with the "reverse roundovers". That would've been legit.
