So the Gods of Technology have smiled on us this year. My unix based web site likes to talk to my windoze based FTP client filezilla (my Mac at home never had trouble using the intrepid cyberduck ) and we bought a wireless modem. So I'm typing this at the beach at Horseshoe Bay in Queensland. Got up this morning and took the 1 minute trip to the beach had a swim and a sun (Doc says I'm low in Vitamin D) and thought I'd post a link to the web site entry for these. So it's a blog pointing to another blog...

I'm able to be around here in 'holicland a bit more thanks to the wireless modem, but what with the pressures of swimming, hiking, reading, and eating fresh fruit...

Our current timetable has us back in New Zealand towards the end of October. Winter is usually over by then and it is safe to go home to catch the spring flowers in Auckland.

Look what they're doing without you... I'd be pretty upset.

A crate of Scotch whisky that has been frozen in Antarctic ice for more than a century is being thawed by museum officials in New Zealand.

The crate, and four others, were found earlier this year beneath the floor of a hut built by explorer Sir Ernest Shackleton during his 1908 expedition.

Canterbury Museum official Lizzie Meek explained how the whisky was being thawed, while Nigel Watson from the Antarctic Heritage Trust said it might be possible to recreate the whisky from the frozen samples.

Ah that frozen whisky. I remember hearing about it when they first discovered it. Glad to hear they have figured out how to thaw it. But actually, I can't drink alcohol these days Jabez. For my neurological problems I'm on a drug called Tegretol which comes with warnings including "limit alcohol use". In my case that seems to mean "limit to near zero". Otherwise I end up feeling quite poorly in very short order. But not having alcohol is way better than the intense facial neuralgia which used to send me to bed, sometimes for days at a time.

I actually had a sip of Corona Beer two nights ago. We went out for dinner at the Horseshoe Bay Cafe (the one 20 steps from here) and Jan had a beer with her Lamb Shanks. I had a sip and that was enough. If Jan has wine I will have a sniff to see what it's like, but I don't really miss alcohol.
