What do you think about the New Orleans series?

Overall they´re great.
In my opinion they´re just what the ads say..."smokey lows,
clear mids, and a trashy
undertone."

I tend to agree with the discription...i have been playing a 20 inch ride for about a week and i'm liking it more and more every time i play. The bell sounds like an old Zil. A

I think they're great too...I had an amazing 22 - had to sell it and I still miss it! I haven't heard one that sounded bad!

I got a 22" when I went to the factory. Yet to see how it records of even plays for that matter (away from my kit) but I expect it will be sweet. Quite a lot of wash but can be dried up with tape if needs be, mine's quite thin but not rediculously so.

davematthewsfan,
How much does yours weigh? I picked one up a NAMM that I really like. It's the heaviest cymbal I own at 2,889 grams. Very steady.

I have one of the first 20's that Tony received at Cymbalsonly.com. I believe it weighs 1908g. I love it! I'm using it as a left side ride, paired up with a 22" Agog Sig and Bos 14" Masters hats. Mine has a nice wash, but a defined stick sound. It crashes beautifully and quickly, revealing the stick sound almost immediately, and has a nice edge wobble. The bell is clear and clean. Mine seems thinner than any I've checked out since, but I haven't come across that many either.
I would whole heartedly recommend the cymbal to anyone interested in it. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cool.gif

I'm not sure how much mine weighs. There's nothing written under the bell and I don't have an acuurate scale. I think it's a bit thinner that yours. Wobbles quite a bit but I found it doesn't have the same volume level as my other cymbals that I'm using. I think it's pretty dry and will work great for jazz along with my 20" hammer crash/ride and pang thang as a jazz set but not for rock or funk. Oh well, I love my sabian 21" vintage ride for that stuff. Nice to have a contrasting ride.

I have a 20 inch new orleans that weighs around 1904 grams...it sounds great. A lot of wash but at the same time the sticking is very clear. It goes great with a 20" manhattan ride (sabian) that is slightly lighter. I'm liking the bos. more and more every time i play it.

Ihave the 20" Bos Traditional ride, and it is a sweet sounding cymbal. Other drummers have complimented it. It's the right side ride. On the left is a 20" bos flat with rivets. They make a superb combination. I also use a 17" crash. I love them - other drummers love 'em too!

A few years back I had a Bosphorus "Gold" ride. If me memory serves me right it was unlathed. I do remember it was a great ride for sure. I don't see many for the "Gold" series around, were they a limited run or something ?? Was a heavy SOB for sure, kinda washy too, strange for such a heavy ride. Real unique.

SS, that's odd...it being washy and all. I played some Golds a number of years ago when they first came out and I heard some washy ones, but mostly, the ones that I played were pretty dry/crisp. I actually dug them a lot, at least the ones I played. And true...the ones I played were nothing short of warshield strength heaviness!! Odd pies...were they unlathed? I can't remember...but I know they were/are brilliant finish pies...heavily hammered!

If my memory serves me, the gold series had tightly and very shallow grooves on the surface. I couldn't get with the finish, but I don't think I ever played one. I am not sure if they are limited editions. If they aren't on the website, I would suspect they may be discontinued.
