But there's only one problem though...

How BIG are they?

Check them out:

What a great pair! (http://cgi.ebay.com/VINTAGE-GRETSCH-Stamped-K-Zildjian-Istanbul-Cymbals_W0QQitemZ250216278618QQihZ015QQcategoryZ64 439QQrdZ1QQssPageNameZWD4VQQcmdZViewItem?_trksid=p 1638.m124)

Or am I missing something?

Her ad is only about a mile wide so maybe its off-screen somewhere.

O.K. I found it.

I guess it's a little early in the morning for a pair of old stamps.

I was temporarily stupefied.

Not to knit pick or anything, because I'm sure these will make great hats anyway.

But the wear marks look like they go in quite farther than they should on hi-hats.

So I suspect these might have actually been used as marching band cymbals. And they're also a trifle heavy for 13" hi-hats of the era.

And here's another example:

Pair Istanbul 12"K. Zildjian Cymbal With Hand Signature (http://cgi.ebay.com/Pair-Istanbul-12-K-Zildjian-Cymbal-With-Hand-Signature_W0QQitemZ170194344372QQihZ007QQcategoryZ 10174QQrdZ1QQssPageNameZWD1VQQ_trksidZp1638.m118.l 1247QQcmdZViewItem)

...and in this case the seller makes no claims as to the actual type of cymbals that these are, but simply refers to them as "a pair".

Lot's of buyers would assume these to be hi-hats, and I'm sure that they would function well enough in that capacity.

But the left cymbal at least definitely shows wear patterns that could be only be consistent with a history of being used as a marching band type.

And also he says:

"One cymbal is marked "Made in Turkey KZILDJIAN & Co'" Trade Mark",

If that's true then that particular cymbal has to be a Constantinople K., and is a lot older that he thinks. It's got to be circa 1940 at the latest, and probably older than that.

Wow, if I had to do marching band again, I'd want a pair of 12"'s.
I see the marks you're talking about but wouldn't have known they were from that use.
When they made them, were they specified as to use, or were they just sold as generic whatever cymbals?
Dunno why, but I get a good vibe from those cymbals.
12's would be nice for my Island Gigpig...

They just made generic cymbals.

In general when they got an order for marching/concert they just paired up some of the heavier ones that were around, and then the thinner ones went out to fill the orders needed for the "dance band" types.

They matched both hi-hats and marching/orchestral cymbals as needed from the generic pile.

I have a feeling that when they got an order for a pair of 22" cymbals for a symphonic player though, that these had to be made especially for that order. This type of order was just so rare that it must have been filled on a "special order" basis.

I had those cymbals for about a year. She paid $500 for them (not from me). They aren't half bad.

O.K.

Sure am glad that she was able to fiund the time to post these.

I mean considering how just busy she otherwise can be. Maybe she was able to fit it in there somewhere between havesting the maple syrup and making the candles.

"I am an inventor, a musician, a businesswoman, a farmer, a metallurgist, a thinker. I create music, as such I play many instruments and am in a couple of bands/projects right now including a rock orientated bank and a free jazz orientated band. I write music that is akin to a painting, my best songs feel like musical pictures to me and mental images of my expressed intent fill my mind whenever I play these visually/sonically "living" orientated songs, kind of a waking dream.

I keep bees, harvest maple syrup, make birch beer and harvest wild berries for wines, james and medicinal purposes. I make my own candles, wine, beer, maple syrup, smoked ham, bacon and sausages, jams, breads, tomato sauce, salsa, cheeses, butter. Saurkraut, pickled vegetables, many varieites of tea, vinegars, bone broths and feed for livestock. I have a store of my own heirloom seeds that I have saved over the years and have bred some cold weather hardy tomatoes which I was this year picking after the frost."

I, I , I , I, I ....

But she forgot to mention the organic garden which she fertilizes with geniune organic livestock poop.

It is not widely known that the UN has requested her help in disease control. She has already been able to train large numbers tse-tse flies to bite themselves and fall asleep rather than to attack human prey.

And don't forget, she is only the second known individual to become a successful dental floss tycoon.
