I've been checking these out, sturdy looking well made instruments. Could you give me an overview of the sound characteristics i.e. sensitivity, head response, volume, overall best application?
thanks, JP

No problem... It is a killer drum... I have only used it in recording situations. I would say the snare is very sensitive. Based on what I have played on in the past, I'd compare a brady jarrah ply shell snare to say a dw cravietto soild shell interms of volume, sensitivity and crack. The block shell seems to me to be a bit more sensitive than those drums. It tracks everything nicely from the faintest whispers to full on volume. Playing the drum it reminds me of other 13's I have used before, not as much give as say a 14 or 15 inch drum. I am not one to crank my snare heads, but can tell a difference in overall feel.

Even at 13" this drum is one of the louder snares I have encountered, which is great for recording. One thing I noticed about the drum is the sound charaterists depend on the room more so that other drums. It sounds great everywhere, but if you get the drum in the right room, look out. I'd describe the tone of the drum as being more full, focusing on the lower tonal / dark spectrum... guess its the block Jarrah shell? I'd say the drum has the most full sounding rimshot I have heard. Definatley more crack than an average snare.

I have used the drum on a few rock tunes, blues, and country recordings and it worked well in all those situations.
