I know that alot of people think this cymbal is TOO much, it´s alot of cymbal for sure and it can be loud and nasty, but i´ve used it for a few gigs now and i´m digging it!! The cymbals "disadvantages" works for me, it´s massive but if played properly it really sings, a notch harsher than say, a Mel Lewis type sounding china but still dark and shimmering, when played with a bow the cymbal really opens up. Only thing is that with the PE ride stick it can sometimes sound abit flat, I´ve been a fan of the PE ride stick for a while now but i´m gonna try some sticks with bigger tips, anyone who´s tried the Carl Allen model?

I play the Carl ALlen model, a very mellow stick if played with finesse. Last night I used it on a Mehmet 21" Legend (mel lewis) which is like a bosphorus hammer in brightness and it was darkest of all my sticks, almost TOO dark.
So I say give it a try.

I too have the 22" Hammer, along with the 20" Hammer. The latter serves as my main ride (with one rivet at the top), and former had three rivets. I ended up taking one rivet out, which keeps plenty of sizzle but let's more of cymbal's sound come out. This Hammer can pack a punch, which means it doesn't work well for me on low volumn gigs. I get great tone out of it with either Regal Tip Jeff Hamilton or Lewis Nash sticks. For more punch, an 8A really brings out the volumn. Each stick gets a different sound out of the Hammer, so I suggest you play with different sticks to get the sound you want out of the Hammer. The 20" is more forgiving and versatile, offering a greater dynamic range than the 22". Either way...you can't beat Bosphorus!
