I cannot say enough good things about these two pies, A friend emailed me the sound files on these cymbals that indoor storm had, I believe he uses a AKG C 3000 mic to do his files, anyway I took a chance, as I often do.
The 21" medium is one of the nicest rides I have ever played, it is complex, but with a somewhat bright stick sound, crashes well, has a very integrated clear bell that is just perfect, this pie is a X between a Bosphorus, a K Istanbul and a 602, I played it out for the 1st time last night with a beautiful set of 602 heavy hats, the brightness of the ride is a perfect compliment to these hats, it is almost like the perfect 602, it has a great stick rebound and the complexity of the bos and K. It definatly does not sound like an K but sure reminded me of one, it was almost as smooth as a bosphorus, sometimes I think they are too smooth, and had the pitch of a 602.
The 17" Thin crash did not impress me as much at first, until I played it live, there it had a nice quick attack and very fast smooth decay, actually sounding much darker with the music than alone,
I am overjoyed with these cymbals and just mabee these were a couple of rare gems, but I will be searching out some heavy hats and more crashes to seriously check out.

One of the music stores I teach at has a Byzance 20" Ping Ride in stock. It is one of the best ride cymbals I have ever heard in my life. I am so tempted to buy it. If it said "Paiste" on it, it would be in my collection right now. I really think the quality & consistancy of the Byzance line has gone up since they were first introduced. I remember one of their Flat Rides that was killer too.

Meinl is vastly underrated. If I ever switched from Paiste, it would be to Meinl.

I have a 21" Byzance Dark Ride that I put head-to-head with my 22" 602 Dark Ride prototype, and the comparison is extremely favorable! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cool.gif

Also, their Byzance thin crashes are terrific! I have a 15" that's just a killer!

Does anyone know if Meinl uses B20, B8 or some other proprietary blend?

The Byzance are B 20, I believe the other lines are B 8 or at least some of them are, I am digging my Byzance more every day

Yes, yes & yes.
If you go to their website, I believe it shows which alloys are used for their various lines.

I have a 20" Byzance heavy ride which I bought online. Definitely the nicest, most versatile ride I've ever owned.
