Last night I played a gig with the cymbals I have posted up for sale. After playing the gig there is ONE cymbal I have decided to keep while I am still commited to selling the others.
1. I am keeping the hi-hats!! THese Istanbuyl Regular 13" are just too nice to give up. What I realized last night is the slightly heavier weight and pitch combined with them being handmade is exactly what I what/need.
2. The pre-aged k is awesome but I still want something closer to a Sound creation dark ride. I have played 4 K Custom "Bill Stewart" rides in stores and the best way to describe my pre-aged is a mellow version of that cymbal. It has the trash but a much more woody stick. THe wash is a little cleaner than the KCDC. The bell is NOT integrated at all but is really nice and useable for latin.
Last night I used it angled like Al Foster, no rivets, and Zildjian Jazz Model sticks. I have to say it reminded my of a softer, lighter Tony Williams ride, maybe because it also a little flanged down at the edges.
2. My mehmet 19" is also a beauty but I need something splashier, a little thinner, and smaller. I tend to ride on my ride 98% of the time and "crash" on my left side cymbal. I dont know the weight but its not as light as the agops at tony's site BUT IS lighter than a pre-split 19" I had. The sound is SILKY, SMOOTH, giving, trashy in a NICE way...versus a china cymbal or KCDC. If you are looking for a SWEET, mellow, Jimmy Cobb imitation left side crash ride ...this is it.
Anyway...Im keeping the hats ans still going to wait it out for a SCDR and some type of 18" fast crash.

Oh, and I almost had a heartattack. Terrance Blanchard was in town with his group and a bunch of people came to the club we were playing at after the concert. I SWEAR there was a guy at a table who looked EXACTLY like Billy Drummond! I saw him after the second set and for a second I freaked. I dont think it was him though...I hope not!
