So while I have been keen on the TW ride, I have also found a completely wonderful ride for the live gigs with electric guitars, etc...it's a late 60s Zild A Ping Ride. It seems thinner than today's ping, so it has a little wood thrown in with the ping, but it definitely makes itself heard in the mix. At the same time, the wash-pitch is fairly low while the stick ping remains fairly high. Think of the modern 22" ping ride with less highs and more lows, and less "edge" to the ping. It is a perfect compromise for a live set-up with vintage 602 crashes. You can tell these by the profile, which is higher compared to other 60s A Zild rides, and a larger bell. Warmth and definition at the same time. A great stage ride for country, pop, and rock n roll. It still has enough warmth to cross over into jazz stylings (in a pop setting). A happy find!
